As Executive Search leaders, TCG knows how important it is for prospects to submit the best resume possible. Our last post (blog post) described two small mistakes that can lead to a failed interview or thrown out application. Below are the final three from the article Avoid the Small Mistakes of Job Search errors that are easily avoidable for resume and interview success.
Tip #3 Always Show Interest – An article from CNN showed that 48 percent of hiring managers said appearing disinterested leads to a poor interview. Employers want to know you are interested in the job and the company. That includes everyone not just the interviewer. If you have the opportunity to meet staff, be friendly and attentive. During your interview ask good questions and get to know the person you are talking with.
Tip #4 Be Yourself – When preparing for the interview don’t just memorize answers, come up with ideas and expand upon them during the interview process. Put your best self forward. Interviewers want to see the person who will be in the office every day. Answer questions with honesty and confidence to avoid appearing robotic.
Tip #5 Notify Your References – Be sure you tell your references that you are using them and update them on the job they are sourced on so they are prepared to answer questions adequately. Some applicants include references on their resumes and some applications ask you to list them. Make sure your references are aware that you have cited them.
