Deb Sellers, RN, BA, MS, TCG Associate
Ms. Sellers has over 20 years of varied experience in the home health and hospice industry, where she has held both staff and upper management positions. She is an expert in operations, program development regulatory compliance, quality assurance, performance improvement, and education.
Debra earned her Bachelor of Arts in Nursing and Biology at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, and her Master of Health Sciences Administration through St. Francis University in Joliet, Illinois. As Director of a hospital-based home care and hospice in central Iowa, which was also the county’s public health nursing agency, she assured compliance with all regulatory oversight entities including JCAHO, and also oversaw the public health and maternal child programs. Under her tenure, the hospice opened a 12-bed inpatient facility — the first in Iowa to offer all levels of hospice care. She oversaw the implementation of new integrated billing, scheduling and point of care software for both home care and hospice, in 18 weeks ahead of the projected 26-week schedule. She also served on the Story County Empowerment Board (including two years as chair) and was co-author of a successful Robert Wood Johnson Foundation grant to establish the Story County Dental Clinic. In 2003, Debra joined Cahaba GBA as an educator for home care and hospice, working with providers in 15 states and Washington, DC. More recently, she served as State Operations Manager and eventually Regional Vice President for a proprietary home care company with operations in Iowa, Missouri, Texas and West Virginia, where she was instrumental in completely overhauling the billing center, resulting in cash collections of $3 million in old claims. Her professional career has also included medical surgical, ED/Trauma critical care, medical staff QA, infection control and utilization review, and a position as an on-site reviewer for the Iowa Peer Review Organization (Iowa Foundation for Medical Care).
From her diverse experiences in both clinical operations and administration, Debra brings the perspective of both staff and administrator. While serving as home care and hospice educator with Cahaba GBA, her presentations to state and trade associations were well received, as evidenced by high evaluation scores with audiences of 20 to 200. Her provider specific work was equally well received, resulting in these organizations coming off of focused medical review. Her open, honest and collaborative approach to problem solving was critical to each of these successes. Debra continues to be an active educator with the Iowa Association for Home Care.
