About This Learning Series:

There has been an increase in scrutiny of hospice organizations.  Hospice staff need to have a working knowledge of the Medicare regulations in relation to eligibility, CoPs, complete and accurate documentation, billing compliance and quality.  The Hospice Compliance 360 Learning Series includes six sessions and addresses these issues.  This Learning Series will provide an overview of Hospice operations, including the following topics and more:

TCG Learning Series Objectives:

Upon Completion of the Hospice Compliance 360 Learning Series participants will:

  1. Be able to describe the parts of the Hospice Medicare Benefit that pertain to clinical practice and clinical operations
  2. Understand the numerous changes to hospice regulations and scrutiny that require hospices to change approach to clinical care delivery and documentation, including but not limited to:
    1. Face-to-Face visits
    2. OIG Work Plan focus
    3. Revocation and Discharge
    4. Risk of RAC, MAC, ZPIC  and other audits
    5. Quality reporting requirements
    6. Physician and clinician documentation of care
  3. Be able to document on hospice eligibility in a way that supports payment
  4. Be able to run an efficient and compliant IDT meeting and plan care appropriately

  7. Integrate OIG Work Plan and PEPPER Report data into revenue cycle management

Barbara Ivanko, LCSW
Barbara IvankoBarbara Ivanko has worked in the hospice field since 2000. She has served in leadership positions in Florida and New York City, as a consultant to hospices nationwide and as a hospice educator at the agency, state and national levels. She is the original creator of The Corridor Group’s popular Hospice Quickflips and Hospice Nuts and Bolts series, in addition to a wide range of articles and other educational materials on hospice compliance and operations.

She received her Master in Social Work degree from the State University of New York at Stony Brook. She has spent considerable time collaborating with staff from the largest and most innovative hospices in the nation to explore ways to increase access to care while ensuring excellent service and regulatory compliance.

Annette Mackin, BS, MBA
Annette MackinMs. Mackin is a Senior Associate with The Corridor Group. She has over 30 years’ experience as a senior manager and financial analyst for health care organizations, with a major focus on home health and hospice. As a Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for a $45 million multi-service line home care company, Annette directed the financial operations for all affiliated companies as well as durable medical equipment and medical supply service lines. She developed and implemented Medicare PPS performance monitoring and analysis tools and facilitated business process reengineering to align operating costs with available reimbursements.

Annette has experience with benefit and pension conversion as well as property acquisitions and renovations. She is experienced in the planning and start-up of new agencies and programs including certified home health, Medicare-certified hospice, licensed home care services and long-term home health care. Annette has presented workshops on cost reporting, integration of clinical and financial activities under PPS, financial implications of telemedicine, and Medicare margin analysis at National Association for Home Care and Home Care Association of New York State meetings and teleconferences. In addition, she also conducts education and training sessions for individual agencies on Medicare PPS cost reporting and PPS clinical and financial integration and hospice billing.
