In order to prepare your agency for the revised aide services condition included within the proposed Home Health Conditions of Participation (CoPs), home health aides need proper education on skin condition changes. The CoPs are expected to be finalized within the next coming months.
The home health aides need guidance from agencies to determine the signs for changes in skin condition, including pressure ulcers. If the aides can detect these warning signs early, then this will allow clinicians to intervene quickly on treatment for the changes.
The proposed CoPs include the aide as part of the following:
• Interdisciplinary team
• Allow therapists to supervise aides
• Improve aides’ skills
• Increase options for an aide to be qualified for home health
With a variety of upcoming changes, agencies need to be prepared by doing the following:
• CoPs enhance communication skills
• Reporting change in skin condition is required
• Changes include training, evaluations
The following steps are to prepare for the new CoPs:
• Update your aide job description
• Update training and competency evaluations
• Revise your aide competency evaluations to include age appropriate pseudo-patients
