America’s Veterans Deserve the Highest Quality Home Care and Hospice

Posted on Monday, November 18, 2019 12:40 PM

As we celebrated our Veterans this week, it should serve as a reminder that these men and women deserve the highest quality of home care and hospice care that they need.  They have made great sacrifices and they deserve the highest quality of care whether it be when they return home from serving, or in the senior years.

Veterans commonly suffer from the following conditions:

  • Post-traumatic stress disorder
  • Depression or other mental health issues
  • Traumatic brain injury
  • Musculoskeletal injuries and pain
  • Infectious disease
  • Chemical exposure
  • Noise and vibration exposure/sensitivity

Unfortunately, on average 18-22 veterans commit suicide every day.  They deserve more care and support, especially in the home.  The Veteran’s Association offers long-term services such as:

  • 24/7 medical and nursing care
  • Physical therapy
  • Personal care i.e. bathing, dressing, cooking, taking medication
  • Comfort care and pain management
  • Support for caregivers who need a break

“The VA Maintaining Internal Systems and Strengthening Integrated Outside Networks (MISSION) Act of 2018, passed on an overwhelming bipartisan basis by Congress and signed into law by President Trump, poses the possibility to increased referral sources for home health agencies, as veterans that have previously been limited to VA facilities will now be able to seek care in their own communities where physicians and agencies already have existing relationships. We hope all U.S. veterans who want to take advantage of the unique services offered by home health care will be able to do so, and the health care system should be arranged to make this as easy as possible.”
