Previously, CMS instructed hospices to utilize a “workaround” under which a hospice that received a transfer patient reports the benefit period start date as the admission date, on claims. This was necessary to ensure the days provided by the initial hospice provider were counted when determining the correct Service Intensity Add-on (SIA) payment.
CMS is advising hospices they no longer need to use this workaround as of July 2, 2018.
