Florida’s Senators Request Pre-Claim Review Demonstration Delay

Posted on Friday, September 16, 2016 12:52 PM

Florida’s U.S. senators sent a letter to CMS’ acting administrator, requesting for the Pre-Claim Review Demonstration’s October 1 start date in Florida to be delayed. Senators Bill Nelson and Marco Rubio feel that the postponement will provide CMS more time to evaluate the demonstration’s effect in Illinois, which began in August.

According to the National Association for Home Care & Hospice (NAHC), agencies have had major challenges and high non-affirmation rates thus far with the demonstration.

NAHC and the Home Care Association of Florida have worked together with the senators’ offices to fight the Pre-Claim Review Demonstration. “It is important that we learn whether the demonstration improves documentation error rates without adversely impacting patient access to care,” the senators state.

The senators explained that if the Pre-Claim Review in Florida moves forward, CMS should “consider a scaled down approach that would be less resource intensive for smaller home health agencies, better protect patients and essentially achieve comparable outcomes.”
