Mandatory annual reporting of hospice Aggregate CAP liability, more frequent CAP liability reconciliations by Medicare’s Administrative Contractors (MACs) and slower annual growth in the CAP value have sensitized hospice providers to the growing potential for exceeding the aggregate CAP. Given these changes, it is prudent that EVERY hospice program have full mastery of the CAP and closely monitor aggregate CAP status throughout the year. Accuracy and appropriate timing of the CAP calculation play a critical role in minimizing overpayment liability, as does knowledge of a hospice’s options related to Extended Repayment Schedules (ERS).
This session will provide attendees with general knowledge and skills to effectively monitor their aggregate CAP and manage CAP reporting as well as any associated CAP liabilities.
Objectives:
- Outline the rationale behind closer scrutiny of aggregate CAP liability and annual self-reporting
- Explain the need to monitor CAP status throughout the year; Describe how to effectively monitor and compute the hospice’s aggregate CAP status
- Secure the information necessary to prepare the annual CAP self-determination and to make this submission
- Project the final CAP liability and make request for ERS
