In late July the U.S. House of Representatives approved the Palliative Care and Hospice Education and Training Act. This legislative proposal has been introduced over the last several Congresses and has enjoyed widespread bipartisan and bicameral support, as well as the support of key stakeholders in hospice and palliative care, including the NAHC.
This is the first time this legislation has moved beyond introduction, and everyone is working to help make this law. “The law would increase the number of permanent faculty in palliative care at accredited medical, nursing, and social work schools, and other programs; promote education and research in palliative care and hospice and support the development of faculty careers in academic palliative medicine. With the rapid growth in the elderly population, and use of hospice and palliative care on the rise, it is essential that our nation takes steps now to address existing and future needs.”
