In response to the social distancing required to try to contain COVID-19, hospices are having to change the way they provide bereavement care to their clients. They, like many others, are now relying on telehealth systems to support grieving families. Cancelling support groups and face-to-face counseling sessions is hard enough, but when coupled with the feelings of increased anxiety and depression due to this pandemic can make it even harder on grieving families who are isolated.
“We know how important our services are to people who are already coping with the loss of a loved one,” said Chesapeake Life Center Director Susan Coale. “Grief can be even more acute when it is compounded with decreased social interaction, the cancelling of events that we were looking forward to, and worrying about the health and safety of others as well as ourselves,”
