Representatives Jacky Rosen (D-NV) and Bruce Poliquin (R-ME) are spearheading a group of bipartisan lawmakers to create a Palliative Care Task Force. Caucuses and Task Forces in the House are classified as congressional member organizations and do not have legislative authority, but they allow for members with a mutual interest to pursue common goals.
“The Mission Statement of the new Palliative Care Task Force is as follows:
The Palliative Care Task Force works to promote and raise the public’s awareness of the availability and benefits of palliative care, while also formulating bipartisan solutions to expand access to palliative care services. Palliative care helps to prevent and reduce the physical and emotional suffering for patients dealing with serious illness, providing individuals with the best possible quality of life for both them and their families. The Task Force will work to enhance palliative care services to improve the quality of life for the millions of Americans managing serious illnesses. The Palliative Care Task Force will accomplish its mission by focusing on three critical areas:
- Educating Americans and Congress on palliative care and why it is important.
- Expanding access to affordable palliative care services.
- Improving the quality of palliative care services.”
Bill Dombi, President of NAHC said “many NAHC members have established innovative palliative care programs as part of the array of services that they offer. We know firsthand the tremendous value palliative care brings to both patients and their caregivers, either as part of hospice care or as a distinct service. We…stand ready to support and assist you in your efforts to expand the availability and improve the quality of palliative care services throughout the nation.”
