In-Home Care Providers Positioned to Fill the Gaps Created by Geriatrician Shortage

A study conducted by the Health Resources and Services Administration found that one geriatrician can care for 700 patients.  That translates to a need for at least 33,200 geriatricians by 2025, this is a cause for concern as right now there are only 7,000 practicing geriatricians. 

Home health workers can be positioned to help fill that void.  They can receive training to help their clients.  “Home care workers have long been considered the “eyes and ears” of the home. If more people in the home care industry were generally schooled in geriatric care, it could help fill the geriatric gap — at least to some extent. That’s true for all aging-related care professionals.”
