Medicare Beneficiary Survey Shows Most Are Pleased with Care, in Good Health

In May, CMS released the results of the 2017 Medicare Current Beneficiary Survey (MCBS) which showed that most beneficiaries are pleased with the care they have received and are in generally good health.

The MCBS shows that seventy-five percent of beneficiaries are in good health and ninety-two percent report that they have no problem accessing healthcare.  The demographic information report shows that almost half of all beneficiaries are 65-74 years old, with another 26 percent in the 75-84 age range. Almost ten percent of beneficiaries are 85 years and older, but that demographic continues to grow.  Women outnumber men as beneficiaries; 54 percent to 46 percent.

The biggest difficulty with everyday activities among the beneficiaries in 2017 was walking or climbing stairs, with over 29 percent reporting some difficulty with those tasks. Another 18.2 percent reported trouble concentrating, remembering things, or making decisions, and 11 percent said they have difficulty bathing or dressing.
