MedPAC organized an assembly entitled, “Telehealth Services and the Medicare Program” on March 3, 2016. The session included comments from the commissioners regarding the current utilization and effectiveness of telehealth services, as well guidelines to the potential expansion of telehealth coverage under Medicare. MedPAC concluded the following:
- The use of telehealth was very low within Medicare that it has been growing recently
- The ability of telehealth to expand access, improve quality, and reduce cost was mixed
