New Direction for CMS Innovations Center

CMS’ Center for Medicare & Medicaid Innovation (CMMI) has been under negative scrutiny by Members of Congress and health care stakeholder groups to the point where it was in jeopardy of being eliminated entirely. The Trump Administration recently indicated the desire to create a new direction for CMMI based on an informal RFI.

The RFI indicated that “while existing partnerships with healthcare providers, clinicians, states, payers and stakeholders have generated important value and lessons, CMS is setting a new direction for the Innovation Centers.”  The RFI provides no indication of intent by CMMI to disband existing models it has under study.
