A New Jersey man was out crabbing one morning in July and caught more than he bargained for. He contracted a flesh-eating bacteria called vibrio vulnificus.
The family wanted to place him in hospice, but the man refused because he needs dialysis due to the infection. This highlights an important dilemma in hospice, having to forgo life-extending care to receive palliative care from hospice.
