New Report Emphasizes the Importance of Housing Initiatives so That Seniors Can Age at Home

With a lack of retirement funds and affordable homes for the ill-equipped, the senior population is facing many challenges. According to a report issued this month by the Bipartisan Policy Center’s Senior Health and Housing Task Force, additional spending is required to help the older population.

In the report, titled “Healthy Aging Begins at Home,” the task force explained the importance of home health care with the implementation of creating house systems “to help manage chronic disease, improve health outcomes for seniors and enable millions of Americans to age successfully in their own homes.”

The following recommendations were outlined in the report:
1. Building more affordable housing for seniors
2. Transforming homes and communities to assist aging in place
3. Integrating health care and supportive services with housing
4. Deploying technology to help Americans age successfully
