OIG Recovers $1.8 Billion From Providers

In the first six months of fiscal year (FY) 2015, the federal government recovered $1.8 billion from healthcare providers and programs. According to the Department of Health and Human Services Office of the Inspector General, $544.7 million was recovered from audit receivables and $1.3 billion resulted from investigations. Approximately $142 million of the investigation receivables were in non-HHS matters and resulted from work in Medicaid restoration. In addition, there were 486 criminal actions reported against individuals who participated in the first half of FY 2015. The OIG has partnered with Strike Force, which consists of Medicare fraud teams that identify and prosecute fraud. So far, this partnership has led to charges against 69 individuals and organizations, along with $163 million in recoveries. Click here to read more.
