Corey Booker, a Democratic Senator from NJ and a presidential hopeful, announced plans to increase funding for long-term care so more Americans can stay home longer. The plan is geared toward low- to mid- income seniors.
“We have a system now that’s just unfair,” Booker said. “It forces you to impoverish yourself in order to qualify for a lot of the Medicaid benefits. That to me is just unacceptable.” The Senator goes on to say, “One of the biggest problems with the home health care field right now is attracting people into the profession and making sure … that we actually pay people wages that are positive and strong.”
While no one knows what Booker’s plan would cost, he also proposes pay home health care workers a minimum of $15 an hour and give them full benefits.
