MedPac recently came out with recommendations that would impact reimbursement methodology for the following post-acute settings: skilled nursing facilities, home health agencies, inpatient rehabilitation facilities and long-term care hospitals. They are recommending the establishment of a new payment system for these post-acute providers that would reimburse them based upon patient needs versus delivery of care setting. They are recommending that CMS implement this with an effective date in 2021 with a three year transition. As predicted, MedPac is suggesting a 5% decrease in reimbursement for the cost of care.
