RAC Activity Expected to Increase in 2016

In the December 7th issue of Home Health Line, it is reported that Recovery audit contractors (RACs) are expected to rise in 2016.  There is a potential that we could see more activity in the home health, hospice and DME industries than ever before. CMS announced on Nov. 13 that requests for proposals (RFPs) for additional RAC contracts have been released at the Federal Business Opportunity website, fbo.gov.  Therefore the current contracts must be completed by Dec. 31, when they will expire.  CMS is expected to award RAC contracts in mid-February, but it is anticipated that there will be a post-award protest. This could last 100 days, and therefore delay the new contracts being finalized around June of 2016.

When the new contracts are awarded, a new nationwide RAC is expected to focus specifically on  home health, hospice and DME claims.
