Supreme Court Clears Public Charge Rule, Possible Big Impact on Home-Based Care

Posted on Thursday, February 20, 2020 5:29 PM

In January, the Supreme Court ruled in favor of the Trump Administration and enforced the “Public Charge” rule which makes it harder for poor immigrants to obtain green cards.  The rule allows the government to consider what assistance an immigrant would need in determining their immigration status.

“NAHC filed comments on the public charge, focusing narrowly on the ramifications of the rule for home care and hospice workers, providers, and patients. Already facing a critical workforce shortage, and increasingly reliant on immigrants to provide valuable in-home services and supports, a reduction in the number of legal immigrants will only exacerbate these challenges.”
