In July, CMS issued a proposed updated for Home Health Agencies (HHA’s) that will impact reimbursement for 2018 and beyond. Inside of the proposed rule was the final 2018 reimbursement projection and a proposal to change the way reimbursement is calculated for HHA’s called the Home Health Groupings Model, otherwise known as HHGM.
As proposed, HHGM would be a significant change to the current PPS reimbursement system. HHGM could potentially cut close to a billion dollars in reimbursement to the elderly and those individuals that need home healthcare services the most. The target date for implementation for HHGM is January 2019, and while 2019 may seem far away, it is not a lot of time for everyone in the industry to fully prepare for this magnitude of a change.
CMS is accepting commentary on the HHGM proposal right now, but this window closes on September 25th. As an important voice for the industry, Corridor has studied the potential impact of the new HHGM proposal. It is not good – impacting Medicare recipients, HHA’s and Corridor, changing the way care is delivered and possibly promoting adverse selection and acceptance of referrals.
We urge you to act now, to ask CMS and Congress to delay implementation of HHGM and take the time to get it right.
Two ways to do this:
1. Send a letter to Congress to make sure your representatives hear your voice.
2. Contact CMS before the commentary period ends on September 25th.
