White House Indicates Medicaid Block Grant Funding Might Be in the ACA Replacement

Posted on Wednesday, February 1, 2017 6:05 PM

According to Kellyanne Conway, White House Senior Advisor, President Trump’s Affordable Care Act replacement would include Medicaid block grants. Medicaid block grant funding provides a certain amount of funds from the federal government for states to administer their Medicaid programs.

The current funding mechanism for Medicaid includes the federal government matching state dollars at certain percentages. These percentages include state per capita income with limited increases in matching percentage rates that are connected to optional programs – states are encouraged to implement.

Currently, there are several aspects that are under consideration for the Medicaid reform. Congress and Governors will continue to discuss block grants and per capita caps. VNAA will also continue to provide members and home care associations with updates to these developments, considering each state will have different outcomes.
