Why Medicare Advantage Isn’t an “Instant Home Run” for Home Care

Home care leaders are focused on their priorities for 2020, and many are determined to contract with Medicare Advantage plans despite the MA plans not being well versed in what home care entails. 

Establishing a relationship with a MA plan is time consuming and the education process extensive.  Once the front-end meetings are done, the MA plan administrators go and develop a plan based on the needs discussed.  “We spend a lot of time talking on the front-end to people who we believe are decision-makers within the organization,” Right at Home’s Brian Petranick said. “We will have several meetings, we get them understanding and to a point where we at least have an idea of what we want to do, and then it disappears within their organization. Then it comes back and what they come back with doesn’t match what we discussed in the front-end.”
