According to a Centers for Disease Control (CDC) survey released yesterday, the percentage of uninsured people in the U.S. dropped below 10% this year for the first time. The national uninsured rate decreased to 9.2% in the first three months of this year from 11.5% as 7 million people gained health insurance. More people have gained coverage in states that have expanded Medicaid and in states that set up their own exchanges, according to the report. However, 28% of the nation’s poor remain uninsured, with minorities significantly more likely to lack insurance. The CDC survey is based on interviews with more than 26,000 people.
