The National Institutes of Health and the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality conducted a study showing diabetic patients who received primary care from NPs are less likely to be hospitalized than patients who received the same care from physicians. This study compared patients with a diabetic diagnosis from 2007-2010, who either received all of their care from NPs or all of their care from a generalist physician. The study contained results from 345,819 patients. The findings showed a 10% decrease in hospitalization for potentially preventable conditions for patients who received care from their NPs.
