Hospice agencies are getting ready for big changes in 2018 when it comes to payment rate updates and quality reporting requirements.
Although hospice agencies were granted a 1% increase in FY18, providers have also been required to submit more reporting. Hospice Compare was launched in August 2017. It gives consumers the opportunity to see how hospices rank based on HQRP, which reports quality care measures.
Theresa Forster, Vice President for Hospice Policy & Programs at the National Association for Home Care & Hospice (NAHC), expects that cost reporting data will likely be analyzed for potential revisions of payment rates, as well as future rulemaking.
MedPac will also be looking for ways to reduce spending through payment updates. During the NAHC annual meeting, Foster reiterated how important it is to have accurate reporting.
Hospices will also be able to see their CAHPS Hospice Survey soon. This will be displayed each quarter in 2018. The CAHPS survey includes several composite and global measures including hospice team communication, getting timely care, treating family members with respect, getting emotional and religious support, getting help for symptoms, getting hospice care training, rating of the hospice, and willingness to recommend.
