Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell vowed to Senator Collins that if the GOP tax bill were approved, he would not allow for any Medicare cuts. He said he will stop the “pay as you go” or “paygo” automatic spending cut scheduled for next year.
“I have a personal commitment that this will not occur and that has been discussed with Paul Ryan on the House side. If It were to occur, I wouldn’t even be considering voting for this bill” Collins told reporters.
