As we detailed here, the WSJ has reported that Walmart is in talks to Acquire Humana, though neither company will confirm or deny.
Walmart employs 1.5 million people, acquiring Humana would allow them to bring their employees health insurance coverage in house and manage the cost. Also, Humana is in the process of taking a 40% stake in Kindred. If that deal does go thru, Walmart now becomes a de facto Home Health provider. Most Americans live less than 10 miles from a Walmart, so the move would provide easier access to healthcare for patients. This proximity gives Walmart the opportunity to be a one stop shop for healthcare. Clinics, medical supplies and prescriptions all close by. This could lead to more patients being able to remain at home for longer periods of time.
