Breaking News! CMS Proposes $340 Million Increase in Hospice Payments for 2019

Posted on Monday, April 30, 2018 1:44 PM

CMS proposed a 1.8% increase, which is equivalent to $340 million, in hospice reimbursements for FY 2019.  This is significantly higher than the 1% increase given to providers in 2018.

The increase is based on the estimated 2.9% inpatient hospital market basket update, and then reduced 0.8% by the multi factor productivity adjustment and a 0.3% adjustment set by the Affordable Care Act (ACA).  “This this rule proposes conforming regulations text changes as a result of section 51006 of the Bipartisan Budget Act of 2018, which amended section 1861(dd)(3)(B) of the Act such that, effective January 1, 2019, physician assistants (PAs) will be recognized as designated hospice attending physicians, in addition to physicians and nurse practitioners. This rule also proposes changes to the Hospice Quality Reporting Program (Hospice QRP). “
