CMS Administrator, Seema Verma, announced this week that they are taking steps and monitoring conditions in support of Alaskan residents recovering from the recent 7.0 earthquake.
“This was the most powerful earthquake in Alaska in more than 50 years and many residents who live in and near Anchorage are feeling the devastating effects on transportation infrastructures and other public services,” said Verma. CMS is issuing waivers to provide flexibility that would help meet the medical needs of the individuals and families affected. We will work to do all we can to help support those who are affected by this powerful earthquake.”
CMS will take the following steps: waivers for skilled nursing facilities and assistance for hospitals and other healthcare facilities and special enrollment opportunities for individuals impacted by the Alaska earthquake and Medicare flexibilities.
Part D plan sponsors are expected to lift certain limits for drug benefits, namely dialysis care, and provider enrollment.
