Regions Where People Think About End of Life Issues the Most

Posted on Sunday, February 3, 2019 5:27 PM

According to a new study from Bestow, Inc., an insurance company, people in the Midwest and Northeast think about end of life issues the most.

Less than 30% of Americans have a living will, and fewer than 40% have an advanced directive according to Health Affairs, even though 90% say that discussing these issues is important.

“Bestow calculated with states are most and least concerned with end of life issues by looking at their search interests, and the results are interesting. Wisconsin is the state where people are most likely to be interested in end of life issues, with New York in second place, and then New Hampshire, South Dakota, Ohio, and Minnesota.

States least concerned about end of life issues are Nevada, California, Wyoming, Utah, and Alaska.  This is odd and perhaps concerning, since Alaska and Wyoming have some of the least affordable support and care services for seniors in the entire country, and California – apart from being the most populous state by far – has a very large population of elderly.

The most popular end of life terms people are searching for are “living will,” “Medicare,” and “palliative care.”
