While PDGM is clearly the main issue in today’s home health world, for at-home care companies, the main issue continues to be workforce challenges. As turnover rates jumped to 82% last year, companies are trying to find solutions to retain employees.
Interim Health care in Florida has implemented a program where each new home health aide is “assigned” to a member of their leadership team. At the 30-, 60- and 90-day points, the member touches base, asks how things are going and encourages feedback. FirstLight home care, which has only a 26% turnover rate, has been focusing on professional development.
Most companies agree that daily pay is not the holy grail in regard to retaining employees, but many companies are trying it out to see if impacts employee retention.
