Numerous states are introducing a caregiver registry to try to ensure that home health care workers are adequately screened and trained. There is rising concern that the registries may not be in the best interest of the worker.
Registries vary from state to state, but essentially, they all verify that the caregiver has passed necessary background checks and trainings.
In Massachusetts, the registry includes the caregiver’s contact information is public and available to anyone. Concerns were raised that if a caregiver was a victim of domestic violence, their attacker would be able to locate them, putting them in potential danger. Also, undocumented immigrants are concerned that they may be detained.
