Clarification on G-Codes: Effective On or After January 1, 2016

Posted on Saturday, October 24, 2015 4:57 PM

CMS issued Change Request (CR) 9369, on October 16th, which implements 2 new G-Codes on HHA and Hospice claims. CMS states that these 2 G-Codes will be applicable for hospice dates of services on and after 1/1/2016, and for home health episodes of care ending on or after 1/1/2016. CMS’ instructs that the change applies to home health episodes of care that end on 1/1/2016, which has caused confusion and conflicts with the effective date for the new codes in the manual instructions. NAHC received clarification from CMS, confirming that the effective date for home health claims is for all skilled nursing services billed with dates of service 1/1/2016 and later regardless of the episode start or end date.
