CMS Issues Medicaid Face-to-Face Rule

CMS announced a final rule that requires a face-to-face encounter for beneficiaries receiving Medicaid home health services with additional enhancements to the Medicaid program. The final rule requires that the physician must document the reason for the face-to-face no more than 90 days before or 30 days after the start of services. The rule provides the Medicare timeframes for the face-to-face encounter for home health services and medical supplies, equipment, and appliances. The physician or authorized NPP must document the face-to-face no more than six months prior to the start of services to order medical supplies, equipment, or appliances.
