CMS Rationale on New Patient Rights Notice

Posted on Monday, February 5, 2018 3:07 PM

CMS has confirmed that the new Patient Rights Notice as described in §484 50(a) must only be provided to patients admitted onto service on or after January13, 2018. However, the transfer/ discharge policy and the administrator contact information must be provided to current patents. CMS’ rationale is that the contact information and discharge/transfer policies are completely new requirements, and providing them to patients would not be a duplication of efforts already completed.
