CoPs Delayed Again?

Posted on Monday, October 23, 2017 12:43 PM

There is a good chance, 75% or greater that the new CoPs that are supposed to go into effect by January 13th, 2018 may be delayed said Bill Dombi, Interim President, at the NAHC conference last week. Although law, after already being delayed, CMS communicated in July that indeed the new CoPs would go into effect this January. However, CMS has yet to issue any interpretive guidance relative to implementation. Implementation of the new CoPs is expected to take up to 4 months. Agencies have a need for additional information relative to guidelines related to the patient bill of rights and transfer and discharge requirements in the new CoPs. The current rule for the finalized CoPs leaves some ambiguity.
