Health care associations opposed a $15 minimum wage that could cost hospitals, nursing homes and home health companies at least $2.9 billion annually. The associations reassured lawmakers to increase aid to health care providers in the state to cover these additional expenses. On January 25, 2016, HANY testified against the proposed 2016-2017 state budget. HANY encouraged the Senate Finance and Assembly Ways and Means Committees to agree that there should be no aid to the health care system to cover the cost. Several cities have passed the minimum wage to increase levels to $15 per hour. HANY argued that the state’s home care industry would be affected the most with projected costs to home care agencies reaching $1.7 billion annually.
