Health Care Jobs in the US Hit New High

Posted on Friday, May 25, 2018 11:26 AM

According to a new survey from Altraum, the health care sector added 24,000 new jobs in April and now represents 11% of all US jobs.

The 24,000 new jobs are a bit down from a monthly average of 25,500 new jobs over the past year. However, health spending grew by 5% in April, an increase from “4.6% in Q4 of 2017, 4.7% in Q3 of 2017, and 4.2% in Q2 of 2017,” read the report.

National spending on health care held steady at $3.62 trillion, or 18.1 percent of GDP, as of March 2018. “Another worrying issue is finding qualified employees, a problem familiar to many managers working in home health and hospice. The entire health care sector is now running at something close to full employment, as the overall national unemployment rate has fallen below four percent. “Notably, this does not resolve the continuing tension over whether the U.S. economy is too reliant on the health sector for employment stability and growth,” Altarum wrote in the report.”
