Help Protect Home Health Care for Rural Patients!

Posted on Friday, January 12, 2018 9:19 PM

“Rural home care is vitally important because it is often the substitute for primary care due to a chronic lack of physicians in many rural areas. In addition, a loss of access to care in rural areas leads to a shift in costs to institutional care, which negatively impacts patients and Medicare spending, as home care is far less expensive. By reducing the need for urgent care, institutional care, and hospitalizations, home care provides great value to rural patients and the U.S. taxpayer.”

The 3% payment modifier for rural areas is essential for continuing access to care.  Rural agencies face higher expenses because of things like increased travel time and need for extra staff.  Congress is going to vote on S. 353 encourage your Congressman to vote for it.  This bill will ensure the 3% add-on thru December 2022 and offset the cost of a revision to the Medicare home health outlier payment funding.
