HHS/OCR Released the Top 15 Languages for the Nondiscrimination Rule

Posted on Thursday, October 20, 2016 9:02 PM

The nondiscrimination rule is a provision of the Affordable Care Act that extends the current nondiscrimination regulations that are in place. All healthcare entities that receive federal funds assistance need to pay close attention to this rule.

In order for providers to remain compliant, they need to post nondiscrimination notices in public areas that will be made available to patients, families and employees. The rules must be placed on the company’s webpage and within their office.

According to OCR, hospices and other entities must provide taglines in the top 15 languages for your state, including updates to their current material and brochures that are given to patients. The tagline allows the patient to reference translations in their preferred language.

For hospice organizations, the final rule requires that if you have at least 15 employees, then you need to designate one person as your compliance officer to ensure all the materials have the right set of languages and all the signs have been posted.
