HHS Reveals Fund to Test Screen Beneficiaries for Health-Related Social Needs

HHS declared a $157 million fund to test screening beneficiaries for health-related social needs and associated referrals to community-based services to improve affordability in Medicare and Medicaid. Over time, these unmet needs could potentially increase the risk costs of healthcare utilization. “Bridge organizations” will run the Medicare and Medicaid beneficiaries screening for social and behavior issues based on the following.

  • Housing instability
  • Food Insecurity
  • Utility needs
  • Interpersonal violence
  • Transpiration limitations
  • Navigate community-based services
