NAHC Ms. Thomas led the discussion on the importance of telehealth and the challenges that agencies face when they are not reimbursed by Medicare for telehealth. Ms. Thomas highlighted the importance of telehealth with the following points:
- Telehealth has become more popular
- People are seeking care outside of the hospital and nursing facilities
- More patients are receiving care in their homes
The aging population continues to rise, along with a lack of nurses to care for them. Ms. Thomas correlated telehealth services to “remote patient monitoring.” Telehealth enables the nurses to gather all the biometric readings on a device in the home with a better understanding of how to care for the patient.
