MedPAC and Others Encourages the Expansion of Telehealth

“A recent decision by the Medicare Payment Advisory Commission (MedPAC) and moves by the Administration and leaders in Congress point to a future expansion in the use of telehealth, an important development for the home care community.”  The advocates for telehealth believe it could increase the quality of care, enhance care all while saving money.  The overall goal is to enhance in-person care, not replace it.

Last week, MedPAC voted to expand the reimbursement for Medicare.  Telehealth has many benefits that could enhance the quality of care a patient receives.  In rural areas, it could provide access to care that otherwise might be inaccessible.  Congress is pushing for greater broadband access in rural areas as well.  This would allow for rural home care agencies patients to be cared for and monitored by care that is otherwise physically too far away.
