NAHC Requests Visit Reporting Rules from CMS

NAHC members requested clarification regarding the CMS Medicare Claims Processing Manual language, stating that the SIA is provided for visits of a minimum of 15 minutes and a maximum of 4 hours per day. The general visit reporting guidelines in The Medicare Claims Processing Manual contains no reference to a minimum number of minutes that qualify for reporting as a single visit unit for hospice services. NAHC pursued support from CMS to confirm that hospice providers are expected to report visits that qualify them for the SIA in the same manner that they report all other visits. CMS confirmed that to a “minimum of 15 minutes” was outlined to describe the lower limit of the range of units (1 to 16) eligible for the SIA, and that visit reporting requirements have not changed.
