This week, Medicare released an update on new forthcoming Medicare ID cards. In the past, Medicare ID cards were based off of Social Security Health Insurance Claim Numbers. Due to the increase in identity theft with the public at large and especially seniors who are more prone to this, they are changing the cards to have a Medicare Beneficiary Number otherwise known as an MBI. The new cards will be issued in April of 2018.
CMS is committed to a successful transition to the new Medicare card number.
