Home Health agencies are planning now for the emergency preparedness rule, effective November 15th.
The rule, which was originally introduced in 2013 and finalized last September, requires home health agencies to meet 4 emergency preparedness standards by the November 15th deadline.
The 4 standards include:
- An emergency plan with an all-hazards approach
- Develop policies and procedures based on the emergency plan
- Come up with a communication plan that complies with federal and state laws and loops in other area providers
- Develop and maintain training programs and drills
The new standards are to preserve the health, safety and security needs of care providers, their employees and their patients during a sudden emergency such as a hurricane, tornado or terrorist attack.
