Study Shows Low Percentage of Advanced Directives

Posted on Wednesday, August 2, 2017 6:48 PM

According to a University of Pennsylvania study, only 1/3 of American adults have completed advance directives such as living wills and healthcare proxies. The study showed that 45.6% of people over 65 years of age have some sort of advanced directive compared to only 31.6% of younger adults.

Since January 2016, physicians can get reimbursed by Medicare for counseling beneficiaries about advanced-care planning. While it can be a difficult discussion, patients can find comfort knowing their final days would be spent in the manner they wish. Click here to read more on the advanced directives study.
